About Us

Deborah "Dee" Tonken is a storyteller from Maine, drawing inspiration from her childhood on an island in Casco Bay. With years of experience as a sign painter and graphic designer, Deborah successfully owned and operated Sign Systems of Maine for 18 years, before earning a bachelor's degree, specializing in sculpture, from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2014.

In 2024, Deborah turned her gifts to writing and illustrating when creating a special gift for her granddaughter Alora for her 8th birthday.

The gift of one book began the series Nana Dee & Ari -  coming of age stories about Alora Borealis as she discovers herself and her deep connection to the world of Natural Science.

This series of books was followed by the 12 Months of Harmony, a collection of 12 books, each focusing on a specific monthly theme rooted in timeless principles and character values.

Deborah's storytelling and vibrant illustrations reflect her upbringing on a Maine island where everything felt connected and special. Her stories and illustrations encourage love, curiosity, and care for one another and the world around us.

In collaboration with Elaine Parke, creator of the Habits of Unity daily motivation book and media campaign, Deborah and Elaine bring together themes of harmony, love, and interconnectedness.

Together, they inspire readers of all ages to explore, learn, and create a kinder, more beautiful world.
